Helen Grignon Hutt Ross


Helen Grignon Hutt Ross, age 83, a resident of the Westmount Health Facility in Queensbury, NY died on Monday, October 14, 2013, after a long illness, surrounded by her family.

She was raised in North Walpole, NH, and is the daughter of the late Atwell and Catherine (Reardon) Grignon. Mrs. Ross is a graduate of the Bellows Falls High School, Class of 1947.

She married Franklin Hutt, Sr. in Bellows Falls, Vt, in 1948, he predeceased her in 1967. She later married Jim Ross in 1968 and moved to Bennington. He predeceased her on January 6, 2001. While living in Bennington, she was very active at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Parish. Helen taught religious education, was involved in the Faith Sharing Group, the RCIA, and Daughters of St. Anne. She also volunteered for the Mercy Meal Program and for HIS Food Pantry at the church. She had also worked at the Chamber of Commerce in Bennington for a time.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She understood the significance of family, and found pleasure in sharing her love for baking and knitting with her family and friends.

She is survived by her three children: Franklin Hutt, Jr. of Gaffney, SC, Kay Hutt of Queensbury, NY and Dorothy Breon of Concord, NH. Helen leaves nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

She also has one sister, Leona Hazen of Chester, VT and one brother John Grignon of New Ipswich, NH.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, October 19, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning, October 19, from 10:00AM until the time of the mass. Memorial contributions for Helen may be made to Westmount Health Facility, through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201. Guestbook condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Westmount Health Facility for the kindness and care they provided to Helen over the course of several years. The friendships that were developed there, as well as the compassion and concern they displayed during the last few weeks of Helen's life will never be forgotten.
