Donald Leo Stone

HANCOCK -
Donald Leo Stone, 88, died Feb. 8, 2012, at Golden Acres Boarding Home, Hancock. He was born June 22, 1923, in St. John, New Brunswick, the son of Leo and Violet Stone.

Donald graduated from Somerville (Mass.) High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later joined the Naval Reserve from which he retired as a chief petty officer in 1983. Donald and Kathryn celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in October 2011. He and Kathryn enjoyed traveling. Donald was a member of the American Legion and held the post of past state commander, 1974-1975; member of Hancock Memorial Post No. 207, Trenton; Ellsworth Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post No. 109 and Franklin Veterans Club.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughters, Donna Hinshaw and husband, Foster, of Cambridge, Mass., and Marjorie Bachelder and friend, John, of Otisfield; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and sister, Violet Fairbanks of Lisbon. He was predeceased by his first wife, Winifred Eleanor Doane; brother, William Gerald Stone; and stepdaughter, Bonita Sorrell.

A committal service will be held in the spring at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta. Contributions in Donald's memory may be made to any veterans organization of one's choice. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.
