JOHN E. CARVER

OLDEST RESIDENT OF LEEDS, DESCENDANT OF EARLY SETTLER, DIES

LEEDS -- John E. Carver, oldest resident of Leeds, died at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Russell P. Hammond. He had been ill for several months. He was born at Leeds, July 28, 1851. In 1873 he was married to Miss Jennie Richards of Salem who died in 1916.

He is survived by five children, Mrs. Blanche Rose, Mrs. Nettie Hammond, Mrs. Bessie Jackson of Leeds, Mrs. Mabel Allen of Newton, Mass., Mrs. Georgia O'Connor of Bridgton, 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was a direct descendant of Eleazer Carver, one of the earliest settlers of the town.
