GALESBURG --
Mary L. Pettit, 82, of Seminary Manor died there at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998.

Born May 11, 1915, in Knox County to Simeon N. and Ellen M. Nelson Lindsey, she married Virgil L. Dossett on June 26, 1937, in Galesburg. He died Sept. 17, 1948. She married James L. Pettit on April 29, 1952, in Galesburg. He died Feb. 4, 1989. Three sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Smith and Kathryn Hacker, both of Galesburg, and Mrs. Jed (Gloria) Zak of Midlothian, Va.; three sons, Robert Pettit of San Jose, Calif., James Pettit of Monmouth and Joseph Pettit of Galesburg; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She worked in the housekeeping department at the former Galesburg State Research Hospital and was a cook at Immaculate Heart of Mary School.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville. The Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a Scripture service at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in the form of Masses or to the Alzheimer's Association.
