KENNETH L. COBB

KENNETH L. COBB died on Dec. 30, 2010, in Green Valley. He was born in 1924 in Lee, Maine, the son of Lester A and Edith (Weatherbee) Cobb.

Ken graduated from Lee Academy in 1941, attended the University of Maine in Orono until called to serve in WWII. He returned to the University of Maine in 1946 to complete a bachelor's degree in psychology. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. In 1949-1950, he completed a year of graduate work in psychology at the University of Rochester.

Kenneth served in the 110th AAA Gun Bn, First U.S. Army, in Europe, from 1943 to 1945, receiving five battle stars. The anti-aircraft battalion was in action through D-Day, the breakout at St. Lo, the liberation of Paris, the Battle of the Bulge, Remagen and on into east Germany near Leipzig.

He married Ella A. Page of Lincoln, Maine, in 1946 and lived in Danvers, Mass. from 1953 until retirement. He worked in the General Electric Medium Steam Turbine-Generator Dept. in Lynn, MA, for 34 years as an engineering technician and computer specialist. He retired in 1985 and moved to Green Valley.

Survivors include his wife Ella (Page) Cobb; son Kenneth Allan Cobb and his wife Mary (Coffin) Cobb of Baldwin, Maine; grandson Nathaniel A. Cobb of Worcester, Mass.; sister Joyce (Cobb) Thompson of Lee, Maine and Green Valley; brother Robert K. Cobb, of Lee, Maine and Green Valley; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son William L. Cobb; and two sisters Barbara (Cobb) Dunton and Jean (Cobb) Griffiths.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lee, Maine, with no services at the request of the deceased.
