Pair Pleaded Guilty In Neglecting Baby
Cambrige Parents Claim Ignorance, Lack of Funds

While the parents of Joan Taylor, 5 weeks old, were pleading guilty yesterday to neglecting her, explaining that the situation developed largely through ignorance and lack of funds, officials at the Wellesley Convalescent Home were busy outfitting her. Four applications for an opportunity to adopt the tiny baby had been received last night.

The baby was taken from an apartment at 48 Boylston Street, Cambridge, Feb. 1, and was taken to the Cambridge City Hospital. She has recovered and the East Cambridge district court last Wednesday placed her in temporary care of the Avon Home of Cambridge, from which she was transferred to the Wellesley Convalescent Home.

Frank B. Taylor, and Mrs. Frances (Lindsay) Taylor, young parents of the baby, were summoned before Judge Robert Walcott yesterday in the juvenile session of the district court, charged with neglecting the child.

Robert C. True, an agent for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, told the court that according to the reports given him, the baby suffered from undernourishment and skin irritation. The parents pleaded guilty, but explained to Judge Walcott that the situation developed largely because of ignorance on their part and lack of funds. Taylor recently lost his job.

Judge Walcott placed the parents on probation for a month, with the understanding that they pay $5 a week for the support of the child. Meanwhile, the baby will remain in Wellesley.
