Louis D. Lindsay, 70, beloved husband of Doris (Dot) Young Lindsay, died Jan. 17, 1989, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Carroll, Jan. 2, 1919, the son of Alvin H. and Gertrude (Elsemore) Lindsay. He was an army veteran of World War II and attended the B-24 school at Willow Run, Mich., AP Mechanics at Sheppard Field, Texas and flex gunnery school in Harlingen, Tex. He served in the Pacific Theatre in the Solomon Islands and New Guinea, where he did 300 hours of flying time. He received the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct medal. He was a retired woodsman and dairyman, and worked nearly 24 years for Footman's Dairy, retiring in 1983. He spent winters in Dade City, Fla. and Donna, Texas since retirement. He was an active square dancer, belonging to the National Square Dance Camper Association and various others clubs for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Good Sam Club and a member of a "leisure living" traveling coast-to-coast club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Dee Hay of Alexandria, La., Pamela and David Pierce of Brewer, Gail and Ken Emfinger of Brewer, and Carol and Randy Berry of Brewer and Carole and Randy Berry of Brewer; five sisters, Bernice Averill of Prentiss, Lillian Fielder of Hudson Falls, N.Y., Gladys Camposoulis of Long Island, N.Y., Joyce Archor of Topsfield and Charlotte Ireland of LaMarada, Calif.; four brothers, Alvin H. of Lincoln, George E. of Bangor, Max of Hillsborough, N.C. and Jerry of Springfield; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth and Mary; and one brother, Kenneth.

Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Brookings-Smith, Clark Piper Chapel, 55 S. Main St., Brewer where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Randall Chretien, pastor of the North Brewer Eddington United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Tumor Clinic, Care of EMMC Charities, 489 State St., Bangor 04401.
