Rachael S. Brand
Rachael S. Brand of Lenox, MA and formerly of Eastford and Brooklyn, CT, died on Saturday, (October 1, 2005) after a short illness. She was 84 years old.
She was born in Beverly, MA, the daughter of Frederic Sanborn and Caroline Ober Sanborn. She graduated from Beverly High School in 1938 and from Burdett Business College, Lynn, MA. In 1941, she married Ronald S. Brand of Worcester, MA. After World War II, they moved to Storrs, and then to Eastford, where they lived from 1949-1999. She was active in community affairs, working for many years on the board of the Windham County 4-H Foundation, as a volunteer at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, and as a member of the Eastford Home Economics Group and the Eastford Historical Society. She was a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Society in Brooklyn, CT and belonged to the Connecticut Rose Society.
After her husband died in 1999, she moved to Brooklyn, in 2001 and to Lenox, MA in 2004.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Barbara Brand, of Mt.Sinai, NY and their son Gordon Brand of Madison, WI; her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Djian Brand, of Setauket, NY and their daughters, Marjorie Brand of Setauket and Matuya Brand of Brookline, MA; her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Brand and John Carson, and their daughters, Rachel and Rebecca Carson of Greenwich, NY; and her brother, John Sanborn, of Carlsbad, CA.
There will be a memorial gathering at the Fellowship Hall of the Congregational Church of Eastford, 8 Church Road, Eastford, on Monday, October 10, at 2 p.m. Donations in her memory can be made to the Windham County 4-H Foundation, 326 Taft Pond Road, Pomfret Center, CT 06259.
