George L. Freese


George L. Freese, 89, of Granby, beloved husband of Marie Grace (DeFronzo) Chase Freese, died Wednesday, (February 9, 2000) at MeadowBrook of Granby.

Born in Brookfield, MA, November 21, 1910, son of the late Earl and Florence (Lamb) Freese, he grew up in Bristol, NH, and lived in Granby for the past 49 years.

George graduated in 1932 from the University of New Hampshire with an Engineering Degree and was employed as a design engineer with Veeder-Root, retiring from Sterling RadiatorinWestfield, MA.

He was an active member of the Salmon Brook Historical Society, the Connecticut Trolley Museum in East Windsor, and enjoyed going on Old Steam Train excursions. He loved square dancing and was an avid stamp and post mark collector. He volunteered for the Granby Drummer and was a ten gallon plus Red Cross blood donor.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Lawrence Gregory of Granby; and Kathryn Freese of State Line, PA; three step-sons, James and his wife Marie Chase, John and his wife Vicky Chase, all of Granby; and Michael Chase of Wade, NC; a step-daughter, Dolores Mannix of Chatham, NY; three grandsons, Timothy, Peter and Michael Gregory; nine step-grandchildren, Bill and James Mannix, Jodi Chase, Lyanne Soderbaum, Rebecca and Elizabeth Chase, Norman and Amanda Weigert, and Kim Ravlin; three step great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Barbara Freese of Charlestown, NH and Largo, FL; and several nephews and a niece.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Christine Peloubet and Elizabeth Pigeon.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 12, 1 p.m. at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, with the Rev. Toby Quirk, pastor of the Southwick Assembly of God, officiating. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Salmon Brook Historical Society, 208 Salmon Brook St., Granby, 06035, the CT Trolley Museum, 58 North Rd., East Windsor, 06088 or theGranbyAmbulance Assoc., PO Box 617, Granby, 06035. The family would like to thank the staff at MeadowBrook of Granby for their loving care.
