He was born in Whitefield, on March 10, 1919, and was the son of E.P and Florence (Lamb) Freese. He graduated from Bristol High School, where his father was superintendent of schools, and Keene Teachers College. He served in World War II in the United States Army as a military policeman.

He was a gifted wood craftsman creating many works of art that are now cherished by family and friends. He was an avid skier and for many years a member of the National Ski Patrol. He also enjoyed waterskiing and sailing during the summer months which the family spent in Sunapee.

He was employed for his entire career at Bryant's in Springfield, Vt., where he worked as a sales engineer.

He volunteered in several different capacities at the "Fort at #4." He was a member of the Charlestown Rotary club serving as president twice during his membership. He worked with others to start Little League baseball in Charlestown.

In retirement John and his wife traveled to all 50 of the United States, especially enjoying U.S. National Parks and visits to presidential homes and libraries. He enjoyed photography. They spent their winters in Largo, Fla., and their summers in both Charlestown and Sunapee.

He is survived by one child, a son, Lindsay E. Freese, and daughter-in-law, Betsy Taylor currently of Stoddard. Also a grandson, Jesse C. Freese and his wife, Kelly Nykodym, of Oakland, Calif.; great-grandchildren Colbie and Zoe Freese; and nieces and nephews.

His brother, George Freese, and sisters, Betty Pigeon and Christine Peloubet died earlier.

John moved with his wife to Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord, in 2001 where he remained for the rest of his life.
