Charles E. Johnson, Retired RA-A Copy Editor, Dies


Charles E. Johnson, 65, of 27 Fellsview ter., Melrose, a retired Record American copy editor, died yesterday at his home. Johnson was a graduate of the University of Maine and a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He worked for the Boston Herald and the Christian Science Monitor before joining Record American.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lucille (Burnham) Johnson; a son, David C., a student at the University of Massachusetts; and four daughters, Mrs. Cynthia Ward of Pennington, N.J., Mrs. Elizabeth Wright of Ames, Iowa, Mrs. Alice Park of Topsfield, and Mrs. Grace Craig of Amherst, and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Herbert D. of Chelmsford, and a sister, Mrs. Marion Poole, of Springfield.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Robinson Funeral Chapel, 809 Main St., Melrose, with Rev. Clarence W. Fuller of the First Congregational Church, Melrose, officiating. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.

Visiting hours at the Robinson Chapel are Monday 7 to 9 p.m.
