Harry A. Kinert, Oak Park High coach, teacher, dies at 52

Funeral services for Harry A. Kinert, 52, of 551 Belleforte, director of Oak Park-River Forest high school evening school, were conducted Thursday afternoon, Oct. 16 in Parkwyn funeral home by Rev. William Galaty of Grace Episcopal Church. Burial was private.

Mr. Kinert suffered a fatal heart attack in his home early Tuesday morning, October 14.

He was the former head basketball coach giving up the post only this year. He came from Freeport, Ill. in September, 1952, to coach and teach history, which he continued doing even after his elevation to the evening school directorship.

Born in Freeport, he was graduated from its high school, Marquette university and the University of Illinois where he won his master's degree.

In his years at Freeport (1944-1952), Kinert-coached basketball teams were always in contention for the state title, winning it in 1951. His Oak Park High school team of 1956 went to the state finals in Champaign, finishing fourth.

Mr. Kinert taught in the Keith Country Day school, Rockford, before going back to Freeport.

He was the husband of Teresa (Balles); father of Karen (Lloyd) Jansky of Broomfield, Colo., and Larry (Rebecca) of Oak Park; grandfather of Teresa, Timmy and Christy Jansky, and Michael, Aimee Sue and Kelly Kinert; son of Katherine and the late Henry of Freeport.

Mr. Kinert took great pride in his home and his garden, according to his neighbors who often found him and Mrs. Kinert busy in keeping it attractive. They would have observed the second anniversary of their ownership in December of this year.
