ROBERT E.C. SPEED

MILLINOCKET -- Robert E.C. Speed, 74, prominent businessman in Millinocket for several years, died July 13, 1997, in Millinocket.

He was born in Millinocket Dec. 27, 1922, the son of Frank H. and Lena M. (Comstock) Speed. He was a graduate of Stearns High School and a graduate of University of Maine, Orono, in 1945, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. Mr. Speed worked in the family insurance agency since 1938. He became a licensed insurance agent in 1945 and was president of Millinocket Insurance Agency since 1950. In 1995, he was honored for his 50 year membership in Composite Lodge No. 168 AF & AM. He was also a 50 year member of O.E.S. He was a member of the Millinocket Chamber of Commerce, Professional Insurance Agents & Independent Insurance Agents of Maine. He was a member of the Millinocket Baptist Church.

Mr. Speed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Guillermina (Zuniga) Speed of Millinocket; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert G. and Lori J. Speed, Frank E. and Lisa M. Speed of Millinocket; six grandchildren, Michael I., Jessia M., Breanna R., Misha T., Holly C., and Kierra E. Speed; several cousins.

Friends may call at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Millinocket Baptist Church with the Rev. Whitfield Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery. If friends wish, memorial contributions may be made to Millinocket Baptist Church Memorial Fund (for children of the church).
