Bonnell, Marian Alice Jones

Marian Alice Jones Bonnell, 77, of Oakland, died peacefully on Aug. 7, 2008, at Maine General Medical Center, Waterville.

She was born in Stratton on April 26, 1931, the daughter of Erma Knapp and Scott Edward Jones. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Clarence John Bonnell, in June of this year; her parents; sister, Maxine Billington; and her first son, William Higgins.

She is survived by seven children: one stepdaughter, two daughters and four sons, Shirley and Vincent Brackett of Virginia, Scott and Jeweline Bonnell of Oakland, Helena Gilman of Washington, James and Barbara Bonnell of Oakland, John and Jean Bonnell of Caribou, Ronald Bonnell and Syndee Bucknam of Oakland and Rhonda and Dean Ashey of Winslow; 14 grandchildren, David Brackett, Lisa Joyce, Jackie Williams, Liza and Scott Bonnell, Christopher and William Gilman, Adam and James Bonnell, Sheri Bonnell, Tyler and Nicole Bonnell, Raeann and Ryan Ashey; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was a graduate of Waterville High School and spent most of her career as a certified nursing assistant employed at the Waterville Osteopathic Hospital. She worked in the obstetrics and gynecology department, living her passion of providing care to newborns in the area. She was also a member of The Order of Eastern Star.

Her favorite pastimes were, first and foremost, spending time with her family -- from traveling abroad to visit her oldest daughter to attending local sports games with her grandchildren. She and her husband also enjoyed boating and camping.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks and blessing to all the doctors and staff on 3 North of MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville especially Michelle Vintinner, and Bridgette Franciose and Kimberly Hallee from HealthReach Hospice services. We will always be grateful for the tremendous compassion, attention, and respect you provided her and our family during this final phase of her life.

Viewing services will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Wheeler's Funeral Home in Oakland. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the funeral home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at the Upper Cemetery in Eustis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MaineGeneral Health, Office of Philanthropy, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903, for 3 North MaineGeneral Medical Center, Waterville.
