FORT WORTH -
George Everett Brooks, 85, a retired petroleum engineer, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at home.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday at Benbrook Funeral Home. Burial: Hope Cemetery in Worcester, Mass.

Memorials: Community Hospice, in lieu of flowers.

George Everett Brooks was born March 27, 1913, in Worcester, Mass.

He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with distinction in civil engineering in 1936. In addition to track and field accomplishments, he was a member of the Society of the Sigma Xi and Phi Sigma Kappa fraternities and played the piano professionally throughout his academic career.

Mr. Brooks worked for Texaco Inc. in Lawrenceville, Ill., New York, N.Y., Houston, Texas, and Cherry Hill, N.J., most of his adult life, primarily as a petroleum engineer. He retired from Texaco in 1978 and resided in Cherry Hill until 1997, when he moved to Fort Worth.

His life was one of dedication to Texaco and service to others. He was past president of the Haworth, N.J., school board; a civil defense volunteer; Boy Scout leader; Citizen Patrol officer; Sunday school teacher; and a confidant and friend to many fellow employees, neighbors, relatives and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Pauline Meeks Brooks.

Survivors: His son, George E. Brooks Jr. of Scituate, Mass.; daughter, Rebecca Brooks Britton of Fort Worth; and six grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren, Mark Joseph Britton, David Keith Britton, Janet Kay Britton Smith, Suzanne Brooks McDonald, Elizabeth Brooks, Margaret Brooks, Britainy Kay Smith, Reagan Kriz Smith, Rachael Brooks Britton, Samuel Joseph Britton, Sarah Beall Britton, Melissa Rachelle Wallace, Megan Suzanne Turner, Alana Marie Turner, Kenneth Beardsley MacDonald and Erin Asley MacDonald, who found their lives enriched by their grandfather's example of honesty, thriftiness, humor and insistence on taking responsibility for one's actions. He will be missed.
