Mrs. Olive A. Norris, Wayne

The sudden death by heart disease of Mrs. Olive A. Norris, one of the most respected and beloved citizens of Wayne, Thursday noon, has cast a gloom over that entire community.

Mrs. Norris was born in Wayne in 1832 and consequently was 74 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Ephriam and Ruth Maxim who were numbered among the pioneers of that town. It will be remembered that this Wayne family includes Sir Hiram and Hudson Maxim, the well known inventors.

The girlhood days of Miss Maxim were passed on the old homestead where she was endeared not only to her numerous family connections but also to a wide circle of personal friends by her genial and kindly nature.

In 1854, Miss Maxim was united in marriage to Chas. Norris of Wayne and that town continued to be her home. It was the old homestead of the Maxims and still remains in possession of the family. Here her life has been passed and here where she was most known she will be most sincerely mourned.

Mrs. Norris was the mother of five children, as follows: Emma, wife of S.P. Libby, of Leeds, Frank B. Norris, Auburn, Luther M. Norris, Wayne, Ruth P., wife of Cyrus Howe, Greene and Chas. Herbert of Wayne. Since the death of her husband some ten years, she has resided with this last named son on the old homestead. Her death occurred in Greene where she was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Howe.

In addition to the above named children, Mrs. Norris also leaves three brothers, J. Ward Maxim of Newcastle, Indiana, Luther S. of Wayne and Geo. A. Maxim of of Sumner.

Mrs. Norris was possessed of a remarkably social and sunny nature. She was an active member of the Methodist Church, Wayne, and also of the grange in that town, and in both of these societies she will be sadly missed. Hers was a life filled with kindly deeds and acts. Of a generous nature, no one was ever permitted to go hungry from her door. For the afflicted, she ever had a word of sympathy, and to those upon whom fortune had smiled her congratulations were always hearty and sincere. Such a nature always commands friends and but few could be more sincerely mourned than she. The great reaper, Death, will still continue to claim his victims, but he will strike down no kinder heart than she for whom the people of Wayne mourn today.
