Raymond H. Woodworth Jr., 78, passed away on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Maine Medical Center in Portland due to complications from surgery.

Born on July 14, 1929, in South Paris, the son of R. Henry and Mary Louise Woodworth. Ray graduated from Paris High School and the University of Arizona culminating in a Masters of Education Degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was deployed in the Korean War and then followed with 35 years in the Arizona and Maine National Guards. He was a high school English Teacher in Arizona public schools for many years and returned to Maine in 1971. During his Maine years he taught school, ran a Shell service station in Portland, was caretaker Camp Powhatan in Otisfield, and finished his working career at Dielectric Communications in Raymond.

Ray was active in numerous local and national organizations including his favorites: The Casco Village Church and Choir, the Republican Party, the Otisfield Fire Department and the Otisfield Board of Appeals, and the National Rifle Association. He umpired Little League baseball games even though he had vision in only one eye. He gave generously to many organizations of his time and money.

His is predeceased by his sisters Katherine Hunt and Dorothy Emerson, and a brother Robert. He is survived by his wife Jennie (Madeline J. Kinney) of 56 years; a brother James of Woodbury, N.J.; two sisters Florence Cairns of North Waterford and Geneva Holehan of Payson, Ariz.; his children, James and Cindy Woodworth of Tucson, Ariz., Henry and Marybeth Woodworth of Otisfield, Bryan and Phyllis Woodworth of Dayton, Allen and Cindy Woodworth of Gray; grandchildren, Natalie Woodworth Reed, Kacy Woodworth, Kirsten Woodworth, Raymond Woodworth and Liberty Simpson.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Casco Village Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Casco Village Church or the Otisfield Volunteer Fire Department.
