NORTH WATERFORD --
Basil R. Hanley, 35, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at his home.

He was born in Bridgton, May 29, 1928, son of Berkley G. and Mary Harriman Hanley. Educated in Waterford schools, he was graduated in 1945 from Norway High School. Mr. Hanley had operated a poultry farm here the past several years. At the time of his death, he was serving as deputy forest fire warden for the town of Waterford. He was a member of Norway Lodge, IOOF, and past Noble Grand of North Waterford Lodge, IOOF, and a former member of the Encampment. He was a member of the North Waterford Fire Department, past president of the Norway Fire Association, a member of the Androscoggin Valley Numismantic Society, a former member of Mt. Tir'em Lodge, F and AM, Waterford, he was also a member of Mundt-Allen, Post, AL, Bethel. During World War II, Mr. Hanley served in the U.S. Navy and in 1948 married Dorothy Woodworth of South Paris.

Survivors include his widow, North Waterford; a son, Randall, a daughter, Beth, all of North Waterford, his parents, of Mechanic Falls; a brother, Berkley N., Oxford; two sisters, Mrs. Dean Kidder, Phippsburg; and Mrs. Linda Hyll, Norway.

DIED -- at North Waterford, Dec. 3, 1963, Basil R. Henley. Private funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from Huff Funeral Home, South Paris. Rev. Herbert Stevens, pastor of Oxford County United Parish will officiate. It is requested that flowers be omitted. Friends wishing to do so may send contributions to the Stephens Memorial Hospital, Norway. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon and evening.
