Norman R. Carey, 74, passed away Jan. 9, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 21, 1935, in Lincoln, the son of Henry and Mildred (Hurlbert) Carey.

Norman enjoyed the out of doors, hunting, fishing, trapping and raising his bees, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was a veteran of the Army and the Air Force, and with all his travels with the military, he still enjoyed the 30-plus years he spent at Lincoln Pulp & Paper. The friendships he made there have always remained with him.

He is survived by his companion, Marsha Lawless of Bucksport; is the father of three daughters, Donna and husband, Keith Stanley, of Enfield, Norma Hersom of Glenburn and Roxann Weston of Lincoln; grandfather of four very special kids, Melissa and Rachel Stanley, Bradley Hersom and Ryan Larson; siblings and siblings-in-law, Ruth Afholderbach of Zephyrhills, Fla., Charlene Carey, Delmont and Inez Carey, all of Howland, Rebecca Martin of Hampden, Eldora and Robert Merrill of Ocean Shores, Wash., and Theodore and Eileen Carey of West Enfield; sisters-in-law, Ruth Dunton of West Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Josie, Lena, Betty and Judy Morrison, all of Milo, and Mary Morrison of Scotland; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline "Honey" (Morrison) Carey; two brothers, Carl and Leroy; brothers-in-law, Robert, Craig, Bucky, Harold and Perl Morrison and Bernard Dunton; and sisters-in-law, Muriel Morrison and Thelma Carey.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday. Spring interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. There will be a gathering at the American Legion Hall, Fleming Street, Lincoln, after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Penobscot Valley Humane Society, 1 Park Ave., Lincoln, ME 04457.
