RONALD E. "HUMPY" MERRILL

HOWLAND -- Ronald Earl "Humpy" Merrill, 69, husband of Florence (Crosby) Merrill, died June 17, 2002, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in Howland, Oct. 8, 1932, the son of Perley Merrill and Thelma (Robinson) Merrill Sawyer, and was later adopted by Edwin and Mary Jane (Carey) Robinson.

He served in the U.S. Navy and over the years had been a volunteer fireman for the town of Howland and had served as fire chief. He had worked for the town of Howland, the Pine Tree Tannery and in the woods. He retired from Lincoln Pulp & Paper after 20 years of service. He liked hunting, fishing, camping, boating and of course, gambling. He enjoyed talking to Apryl Mayo on the computer, as well as other friends.

In addition to his wife, Florence, he is survived by a son, Edwin Earl Merrill; three daughters, Danita and Danny Littlefield, Suella Merrill and Francis Harvey, and Avena and Danny Busque; three grandchildren, Jessica and George Briggs, Jeramie and Shauna Littlefield and Desirae Briggs (Busque); five great grandchildren, Nikki, Lanita, and Paige, Devin and Kati; three brothers, Dalton Merrill, Weston and Margaret Robinson and Clyde Merrill; three sisters, Joan and Royce Smith, Jean Marie Frost and Pearl Judith Farrell; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Clay Funeral Home, 3 Lee St., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clayton Crocker officiating. Interment will be in Randall Ridge Cemetery, Maxfield.
