Mrs. Osa L. Blotcky

Onarga - Funeral services for Mrs. Osa L. Blotcky, 84, of Onarga, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9, in the Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga, with Pastor Thomas Brown officiating. Burial was in Onarga Cemetery.

Mrs. Blotcky died at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 6, in Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka, where she had been a patient for three weeks.

Born November 26, 1893, near Delrey, Ill., Mrs. Blotcky was a daughter of Ira M. and Carrie Capen Lindsey and had resided in the Onarga area all her life. She was married to Byron R. Blotcky in Kankakee on September 14, 1918. He died August 26, 1959.

Mrs. Blotcky was a 1910 graduate of Onarga High School and was a veteran of World War I, having served as an Army nurse. Mrs. Blotcky was a 66 year member of the Onarga Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of American Legion Post No. 551, Onarga, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Onarga, the United Methodist Women's Society and the JOY Class of the church.

She is survived by one son, B. Lindsey Blotcky of Onarga; a brother, Leon M. Lindsey of SUn City, Ariz; a sister, Mrs. Anita L. Rice of Onarga; four grandchildren, Ronald L. Blotcky of Menlo Park, Calif., Gary L. Blotcky with the U.S. forces in Tokyo, Japan; Byron W. Blotcky of Normal and Mrs. Susan Osa Essman of Gilman; and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Blotcky was also preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild.

• She served in the military as an army nurse during World War I. She enlisted 1 September 1918 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and left the United States from the port of New York on 26 November 1918. She landed at Brest and served a few weeks in a hospital three miles from the town. She was then sent to Evacuation Hospitall No. 24 at La Charite before moving on to Bordeaux Hospital (12 miles from the city). She sailed from Brest in July of 1919 and arrived at Hobokon July 13th. Discharged in New York City.
