Mrs. Dorothy Hawes


Mrs. Dorothy McIlroy Hawes, 70, of University Street, Auburn, died suddenly at her residence early Sunday morning.

She was born at Monmouth on May 21, 1907, the daughter of Ronald and Rena Leadbetter McIlroy of Lewiston. She attended Winthrop and Lewiston schools and was graduated from LaSalle Junior College of Auburndale, Mass.

She was the widow of James Hawes, who died in May of 1975. The two had lived in various parts of the United States while he was a manager for the W.T. Grant Co.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Johannah) Currier of Wells; three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Flynn of Lewiston, Mrs. Edward Wellman of East Longmeadow, Mass. and Mrs. John Lockhead of Auburn; and one grandson.

HAWES -- In Auburn, September 18, 1977, Dorothy M. Hawes, widow of James Hawes. Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Phillip's Church, Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. Interment in Central Cemetery, Rye, N.H. at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the Plummer & Merrill Funeral Home, 212 Turner St., Auburn Tuesday evening 7-9 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions to the Maine Heart Fund, Water St., Augusta in Mrs. Dorothy Hawes memory.
