Lawrence J. Flynn

LEWISTON -- Lawrence J. Flynn, 86, of 926 Main St., died early Wednesday morning in the emergency room at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Rumford, July 26, 1907, the son of James and Jane White Flynn. He attended St. Joseph's Parochial School, Lewiston High School and was a member of the Bates College class of 1929. In 1927, he represented Bates College at the National Colllegiate Ski Championship at Lake Placid, N.Y. He won a third place bronze medal in this prestigious event.

For many years, Mr. Flynn serveed the educational community as a publisher's representative in the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

He was a devoted family man who enjoyed sports and many outdoor activities. Mr. Flynn especially enjoyed following boxing on the local as well as the national scene. He was a member of the Springbrook Golf Club in Leeds and also a member of St. Joseph's Church.

Survived by his wife, the former Katherine McIlroy of Lewiston; five sons, Lawrence J., Jr., and James R., both of Lewiston; and Robert C., Brian G. and Thomas W., all of Auburn; one brother, Raymond F. of Lewiston; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
