John M. Lochhead

AUBURN --
John M. Lochhead, 75, of 5 Colonial Way, died suddenly Saturday afternoon at Clover Manor Health Care Center.

Born at Rumford, Nov. 5, 1914, the son of Ralph A. and Gleana Boynton Lochhead, he was a graduate of Edward Little High School in 1932 and Bates College in 1937.

Mr. Lochhead married Constance M. McIlroy on Aug. 31, 1940. He worked as a sales representative for Brewer & Co. Chemicals from 1946 to 1966. He was a tax assessor for the city of Auburn from 1966 to 1978.

He was a member of High Street Congregational Church, Tranquil Lodge No. 29, AF & AM, and was member emeritus of Scottish Rite Bodies of Macon, Ga.

Mr. Lochhead was past president of the Maine Association of Assessing Officers, past president of the Society of Professional Assessors and in 1981 was chairman of the Maine Municipal Valuation Appeals Board.

He was appointed by Gov. James B. Longley as a director of the Maine Criminal Justice Planning and Assistance Agency, was active in establishing the school for municipal tax assessors, sponsored by the Maine Association of Assessing Officers and the State Bureau of Taxation.

Survivors include his wife of Auburn; and one daughters, Shelley Lochhead, of Hopkinton, N.H.

Died in Auburn, May 19, 1990, John M. Lochhead, husband of Constance M. Lochhead. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery Wednesday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Association, 170 Highland Ave., Scarborough, or Maine Cancer Society, 52 Federal St., Brunswick. Arrangements by Plummer & Merrill Funeral Home, Auburn.
