1937-1998

TURNER -- Gladys M. Austin, 61, quietly passed away Thursday, July 16, at her home on Route 117, Turner, surrounded by her husband and children. Her courageous battle with cancer is an inspiration with all who knew her.

Born in Lewiston on April 6, 1937, the daughter of Bernard and Louise Jackson, she was raised and educated in Leeds. She married George C. Austin Feb. 11, 1956. She worked for many years at Ricker Hill Orchards packing, retiring in 1988.

She was an inactive member of the Turner Village Church and the Ladies Circle. She enjoyed craft activities, gardening, camping and spending time at her beloved Maine coast. She was active in several community activities and will be remembered as an exceptional cook, often providing meals for area Masonic organizations. She was also an active member of the Lewiston-Auburn Square and Compass Club.

Besides her husband of 42 years, she is survived by two sons, Robert and wife Claire of Canton and Lawrence and wife Anne of Dexter; two daughters, Linda Violette of North Turner and Christine Bubier and husband Kevin of Turner; two sisters, Janice Watkins of Turner and Elizabeth Jackson of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother, Biron of Cheyenne, Wyo.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral Notice

AUSTIN -- Died in Turner July 16, Gladys M. Austin, age 61, wife of George of Route 117, Turner. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20 at 2 o'clock at the Turner Village Church. Family and friends are invited to call Sun. evening from 6-8 at the Andrews Funeral Home, High St., Buckfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Turner Village Church.
