OAKLAND, ME --
Clarence John Bonnell, 87, of Oakland, died at home June 2, 2008, surrounded by family.

He was born in Moose River on July 14, 1920, the son of Florence Curtis and Clarence Otto Bonnell. He was predeceased by his parents and five sisters, Gertrude Waite, Francis Sawyer, Beatrice Drake, Helena Smith, and Virginia Brault.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marion Jones Bonnell, and seven children, Shirley and Vincent Brackett of Virginia, Scott and Jewelline Bonnell of Oakland, Helena Gilman of Washington, James and Barbara Bonnell of Oakland, John and Jean Bonnell of Caribou, Ronald Bonnell and Syndee Bucknam of Oakland, and Rhonda and Dean Ashey of Winslow; 14 grandchildren, David Brackett, Lisa Joyce, Jackie Williams, Liza and Scott Bonnell, Christopher and William Gilman, Adam and James Bonnell, Sheri Bonnell, Tyler and Nicole Bonnell, Raeann and Ryan Ashey; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Jackman High School, a World War II veteran in the Pacific Theater and was employed by Diamond International Paper Co. for 46 years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and an active member of the Masons, Messalonskee Lodge 113, Oakland.

His favorite pastimes included hunting and fishing with his sons, wood working, supporting the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, and most of all spending time with his loved ones.

Viewing services, which will include a short Masonic service, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, at Wheeler Funeral Home in Oakland. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. June 5 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Parkinson's Society, Maine Medical Center -- Scarborough, 100 U.S. Route 1, Unit 106, Scarborough, ME 04074.
