David F. Coffin

David F. Coffin 83 of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and a Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa with President Ed Conwell officiating. Funeral Services will be held on February 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the 12th Ward Chapel of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in American Fork, Utah. The family will receive friends on February 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wing Mortuary in Lehi, Utah. Burial will be in the American Fork Cemetery. A memorial has been established.

Dave was born on April 30, 1925, in Brewer, ME. the son of William G. & Anna Clara Johnson Coffin. He was united in marriage to Patricia Denihan on July 4, 1946, he later married Cirlaine L. Foster on August 12, 1959, and after her death he married Carla Joy Wisler on January 5, 1996. He served his country in the Navy from 1942 to 1946, serving on the Fanshaw Bay as engineer in the main engine room. He was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict in October of 1951, on the USS Tarawa, an aircraft carrier, assigned as shore patrolman in the Mediterranean, he served until 1953. He was a partner in a structural steel engineering company in Bangor, and then in American Fork, Utah until his retirement in 1990. He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Branch President, member of Bishopric, member of Stake Presidency, High Councilor, Family History Mission, and Ordinance worker in Provo and Mt. Timpanogos Temples.

Dave is survived by his wife, Carla of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, his children: Betty Coffin of Lindon, UT, Jeffrey Coffin of Orem, UT, Garth Coffin (Jody) of Grantsville, UT, Stephen Coffin of Lexington, KY, Tracy Coffin (Denise) of Spanish Fork, UT, Sean Coffin of Draper, UT, Sheri Romero (Antonia) of St. Paul, MN. David G. Coffin (Pastora) of Brownsburg, IN. Brett Coffin (Tonya) of Draper, UT. Pamela Debes (Robert) of Winthrop, ME, Martha Starks of Tucson, AZ and Nancy Weems (Steve) of Foothill Ranch, CA. His step-children: David Smith (Cheryl) of American Fork, UT. Amanda Boody (Robert) of Cedar Falls, IA Joanna Smith of Tooele, UT. 37 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, his sister: Millie Coffin of Bangor, Maine. Sister-in-law Kathleen Dillman (John) of Altadena, CA. and brother-in-law Meredith Wisler of Indianapolis, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, brothers Charles, William & Melvin, Sisters: Mary, Gloria Joyce and Iva Jean, one step son and one grandson.
