Frank M. Vickery, Jr., 65, of 11 Marston St., Auburn, died unexpectedly Monday evening aboard the cruise ship Nordic Prince while sailing the Caribbean.

Born in Auburn, March 1, 1918, the son of Frank M. and Kate Gove Vickery, he was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1937.

He married Marie Harper, April 17, 1943, and was a resident of Auburn all his life.

Mr. Vickery served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed several years by the L & A. Transit Co. He joined the Auburn Fire Department where he was employed 17 years, retiring in 1969 because of disability. For the past eight years, he was a toll collector for the Maine Turnpike Authority.

He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, First Auburn Senior Citizens, Remember When Senior Citizens of New Gloucester, Alden M. Gayton Post No. 31 of Auburn, Amvets Post No. #6 of New Gloucester, Ashlar Lodge No. #105 AF and AM, and Kora Temple Shrine.

Survivors include his wife of Auburn; two sons, William of Auburn and John of Mechanic Falls; two sisters, Ruth Vickery and Mrs. Richard (Alice) Williams, both of Auburn; and one granddaughter.

VICKERY -- In the Caribbean, April 18, 1983, Mr. Frank M. Vickery, Jr., age 65, of 11 Marston St., Auburn. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 24 at 2 p.m. from Teague-Finley Funeral Home, 391 Main St., Lewiston. Interment in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Member of Ashlar Lodge No. 105, AF and AM, will meet at the funeral home Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
