DWIGHT W. MOWER
1921 - 2001

AUGUSTA --
Dwight W. "Jeff" Mower, 79, a long time resident of Quaker Ridge Road in Greene dies Thursday evening at the Maine Veteran's Home following a long illness.

He was born in Greene, June 7, 1921, the son of Seward F. and Laura Bishop Mower. He was educated in the Patten Grammar School of Greene and was a 1940 graduate of Leavitt Institute. Mr. Mower served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army as a Technician Fifth Grade with the 806th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations.

On Oct. 19, 1946, he married the former Erma I. Additon in Leeds. Mr. and Mrs. Mower celebrated their 54th anniversary last fall. Mr. Mower was employed by W.H. Gammon of Lewiston as a cabinet maker, by Marcotte Chevrolet and Louis Chevrolet of Auburn and for many years Barrows Chevrolet of Winthrop as an automobile salesman retiring in 1986.

Mr. Mower was a member of V.F.W. Post 11032 of Greene and a past member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Androscoggin Grange 8 of Greene and a founding member of the Men's Club and Youth Baseball League of Greene. He has served as an assistant scoutmaster in the Greene area as well. He enjoyed the interests of hunting, fishing, gardening and cutting his own firewood.

Survivors include his wife of Greene; one son, Barry F. and his wife Jane of Manchester; one sister, Dorothy Chateauvert of Greene; and a grandson, Neal G. Mower of Manchester.

Mr. Mower was predeceased by a brother, Dwinal; and two sisters, Doris Mower and Dell Reed.
