WESTBROOK --
Wallace W. Reed, 83, a resident of Quaker Ridge Road in Greene, dies Wednesday May 5, at the Springbrook Nursing Home where he was a resident for three weeks following a short illness.

He was born June 17, 1915 in Turner, the won of Wallace and Mildred Hobbs Reed. He received his education at Leavitt Institute in Turner. On Aug. 20, 1938, he married Dell C. Mower of Greene. They made their home on the Quaker Ridge Road in Greene.

During World War II he worked at the shipyard in South Portland making liberty ships. Following the war he went to work for W.H. Gammon Co. of Lewiston as a cabinetmaker and later operated two gas stations in the Lewiston area. He retired to the care of his wife. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf, but working was his life. He also coached the little league team in Greene.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years of Winthrop; two sons, Gary and his wife Marian of Falmouth and Gregory and his wife Judith of Lincoln; a sister, Wilma, and her husband, Leroy Jordan of Turner, and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Sherman Reed.

REED -- Died in Westbrook, Maine, Wednesday May 5, 1999, Wallace W. Reed, age 83 of Greene, Maine. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Valley Cemetery in Greene. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, 707 Main St., Monmouth.
