Mary V. Cahill, 78

WORCESTER - Mary V. "Marion" (Carroll) Cahill, 78, of Worcester, a cafeteria worker, died Sunday in St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, John F. Cahill; three sons, William F. Cahill of Scottsdale, Ariz., Paul E. and Patrick J. Cahill, both of Worcester; four daughters, Mary Anne O'Connell of Ann Arbor, Mich., Jane C. Lisauskas of Wrentham, Elizabeth Cahill of Boston and Margaret M. Cahill of Worcester; a brother, Paul Carroll of Mattapan; three sisters, Josephine Diggins of Hyde Park, Helen McClellan of Randolph and Evelyn Jackson of Lakehurst, Calif.; several nephews and nieces.

She was born in Roxbury, daughter of William F. and Josephine (Quinn) Carroll, and lived in Roslindale and Albany, N.Y., before moving to Worcester in 1960. She graduated from Jamaica Plain High School, Boston.

Mrs. Cahill worked in the lunch room at Nelson Place School for several years.

She was a member of St. George's Church. She was involved in many ministries at St. George's Church including the Women's Guild and the Annual Bayberry Fair. She was chairperson of the parish's Bereavement Committee. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary.

The funeral will be held on Thursday from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. George's Church, 40 Brattle St. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the St. George's Church Memorial Scholarship Fund, 38 Brattle St., Worcester 01606.
