Erma S. Tucker, 94, died Feb. 1, 2009, at Bel-Air Nursing Home in Goffstown.

She was born in Manchester, Oct. 10, 1914, to Charles and Alice (Gooch) Schwartz. Educated in local schools, she was the first cheerleader at Manchester West High School. She graduated from Plymouth Normal School, now Plymouth State University.

Mrs. Tucker taught grade school for more than 40 years. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Grafton and returned to Manchester to teach at Bakersville, Parker and Parker-Varney schools.

Her husband, Arthur S. Tucker, predeceased her in January 2008 after 67 years of marriage.

Mrs. Tucker was a member of the South Main Street Congregational Church for many years. She enjoyed volunteering at the Elliot Hospital and for The American Red Cross. She enjoyed watching Boston sports teams and was a devoted Red Sox fan. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and baking and was happiest when spending time with her family.

Family includes a daughter, Bonnie R. Lynn of Manchester; a son, William C. Tucker of Goffstown; a granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
