Mildred L. Chapman, 87, of Salem, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 31, 2012 at the Cambridge Guest Home where she resided for the past week. Born December 19, 1924 in Milo, Maine, she is the daughter of the late Charlie and Ethel (Goodwin) Bryer. Millie was a 1941 graduate of Northfield High School in Northfield, VT. She was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II.

Millie had worked as an accountant for several paper mills in the area and retired from Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill in South Glens Falls following many years of service.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Salem where she was active on the Mission Committee. Millie was also a member of the Friends of the Bancroft Public Library in Salem and the Francis J. Clark, CMH American Legion Post #812 of Salem. Millie enjoyed traveling with her husband Cal and would attend the annual reunions of the Manning Group which were veterans who had served on the USS Manning during World War II in the South Pacific. In her spare time, Millie enjoyed knitting and puzzle books. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Millie was also predeceased by her husband of sixty-four years, Calvin H. "Cal" Chapman who passed away September 26, 2011.

Millie is survived by her children, Valerie Roche of Salem, Beverly Churchill of Lebanon, TN, Marcia Chapman-Bell and her husband Philip of Northampton, MA and Lorianne Keays and her companion Ronald Cowit of Malta; a son-in-law, Gerald Keays of Greenwich; two brothers, A.E. Bryer, DC of Salem and Trueman Bryer of St. Albans, VT. Millie is also survived by six grandchildren, Nicole Keays, Cory Keays, Michael Roche, Corey Moffitt, Mandy Moffitt & Wesley Moffit and nine great grandchildren.
Interment with Military honors will be held at 12:30 pm Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the First United Presbyterian Church of Salem, 13 West Broadway, Salem with Rev. Donna Jackson officiating. A calling hour will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service at the church. A reception for family and friends will be held in the MacKenzie Chapel of the church following the service.
