T. Emery Kent, 80, of Fort Fairfield, died early Sunday morning, April 8, 1990, at the Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, where he had been a patient for several weeks.

He was born Aug. 1, 1909, at Fort Fairfield, the son of Ludlow Robert and Lillian Mabel (Jenkins) Kent. He received his education in Fort Fairfield schools and graduated from Fort Fairfield High School. On July 7, 1934, he married Hazel Durepo of Limestone at the Bean's Corner Baptist Church in Wilton. Mr. Kent, a life long resident of Fort Fairfield, worked on his family's farm for a number of years. He was a former postal clerk and police officer for the town of Fort Fairfield, and was a former Aroostook County deputy sheriff. He was well known for his many years of employment in the area as a finish carpenter. He was one of two of the original farmers for the construction of the Block House replica on Main Street in Fort Fairfield.

Mr. Kent was a member and past patron of Goodwill Chapter No. 85, OES; member and past master of Eastern Frontier Lodge No. 112 of Fort Fairfield; a member of the Limestone Lodge No. 214; Royal Arch Chapter No. 48 of Caribou; St. Aldemar Commandery of Knights of Templar No. 17, Houlton; and the Mystic Shrine Annah Temple of Bangor. He recently received his 60 year membership pin from the IOOF of Maine. He was a member of the United Parish Church of Fort Fairfield and served on the church board. He was a past president of both the PTA and the Fort Fairfield High School Band Association. He was also a former council member of the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association.

Mr. Kent received a World War II award from the U.S. Army for his efforts as a volunteer observer of aircraft. Mr. Kent was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He will long be remembered for his carpentry and woodworking skills.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel D. Kent of Fort Fairfield; one son, Thomas F. and Joan (Daigle) Kent of Madawaska; two daughters, Roma Lou and her husband Gerald Wiles of Wilton, and Ms. Betty Ann Kent of Fort Fairfield; one half sister, Kathleen (Parker) Peters of Warwick, R.I.; one granddaughters, Ms. Rhonda Ann Wiles of Jay; two grandsons, T. Scott Kent of Madawaska and Kent Conway Wiles of Wilton; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, L. Ralph Kent.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield. Family and friends are invited to call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where public Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, Mass., 01104. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
