Richard Thomas Goff, 77, of 105 Park St. died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 1993, at St. Joseph Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.

Born Nov. 19, 1915, in Galesburg to Harry and Bessie Thomas Goff, he married Mary Epley on Aug. 29, 1942. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Jennifer Ann) Johnson of Morton and Julianne Goff of Tucson, Ariz.; and two grandsons.

He worked for American Chicle Co. and served in the Army Air Corps, retiring with the rank of major. He returned to Knoxville in 1946 and was associated with his father in the John Deere Implement business. In 1947 he established his own business, Goff's Apparel and Appliance, which he sold in 1977. A 1937 graduate of Knox College, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, Friars' Club and the Key Club. He was captain of the track team in his junior and senior years and was a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame and a Distinguished Service Alumnus.

He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 749 and was a former member of the Elks Lodge and Lake Bracken Country Club. He served as a lay member and volunteer of St. Mary Medical Center Advisory Board in Galesburg.

He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Knoxville where he had served in all capacities, including clerk of session.

He organized the Little League in Knoxville where he served as coach for many years. He was a member of the Knoxville Business Men's Association, Kiwanis Club and Pacific Lodge 66, AF&AM, in Knoxville.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 9252 E. 22nd St., Tucson. Cremation was accorded and burial of ashes will be in Knoxville Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. May 2 at First United Presbyterian Church in Knoxville. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to his church or any charity.
