Winifred Gleysteen

Gleysteen, Winifred (Nee Kelch) left this world on December 17, 2007, at the age of 97.

Longtime resident of Fox Point. Winifred was a Christmas Bride, marrying her devoted husband, Carl Gleysteen, on December 25, 1940; together they had two wonderful children, Peter and John (Susan) Gleysteen, who gifted them with five cherished grandchildren, Randy, Ryan, Christopher, Julie and Amy. She was the dear sister of the late Alfred Kelch, the late Pauline Ruegnitz, and the late Adria Hillman Berry. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Lois Kelch and Dorothy Gleysteen Wicks, caring nieces and nephews, other relatives, and cherished friends, including her lifelong friend, Kathy Anderson.

Winifred had a rewarding career as a lyric soprano with several performing groups. Winifred's stage name was Winifred Sayre, taken from her grandmother's name. Her most notable time in her professional career was when she was a member of the popular trio "The Doring Sisters", performing in theatres and coast-to-coast radio shows. Winifred was an active member and soloist in the First Church of Christ Scientist in Whitefish Bay. During this time she and Carl, along with another couple, built the Garden Gate Montessori School on Fairy Chasm Road in Bayside. Winifred taught at the Garden Gate School, and the Dunwood school, as well as conducting Montessori parenting classes in her home. In addition to Winifred's many careers she loved to garden and grew beautiful flowers, as well as vegetables that she shared with friends and neighbors. Winifred was a talented, brilliant and loving person, but remained extremely modest about her many successes. Most of all, she will be remembered as a deeply spiritual person who loved her family and friends. She will live on in the hearts and memories of all those she touched.

No public services will be held. Memorials in Winifred's name may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist, 721 East Silver Spring Drive, Whitefish Bay, WI 53217. FEERICK FUNERAL HOME Shorewood (414) 962-8383 Condolences may be sent to: www.feerickfuneralhome.com
