Wilbur Harter

Wilbur Asa Harter, 95, of Burlington, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center.

Born Feb. 21, 1909, in Waynesville, Ill., he was the son of William Asa and Grace Harriet Brallier Harter. On Nov. 2, 1931, he married Arvilla Louise McCall in Monmouth, Ill. She died in 1980. On April 14, 1984, he married Mildred Wheeler in Hedrick. She died in 1999.

Mr. Harter worked as a co\endash op service truck driver and also drove a truck for Skellgas Co. He later worked maintenance at the State Theater in Washington.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Washington. He enjoyed working in his garden and tinkering with cars.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Miller of DeQueen, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 15 great\endash grandchildren; 11 great\endash great\endash grandchildren; and one niece.

Besides both wives, he was preceded in death by one daughter, four brothers, one sister and one great\endash great\endash granddaughter.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jones\endash Eden Funeral Home in Washington.

The funeral for Mr. Harter will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eden\endash Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Wilbur married Arvilla Louise McCall, daughter of Claude McCall and Phebe Arvilla Lindsey, 2 November 1931 in Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois.⁸⁹⁴⁷ (Arvilla Louise McCall was born 20 January 1912 in Iowa ⁸⁹⁴⁹ and died in December 1980 ⁸⁹⁴⁷.)
