Mildred A. "Millie" Keating


A celebration of life for Mildred A. "Millie" Keating, 86, of Washington, will be held Thursday, April 21 at 10:30AM at the Washington United Methodist church with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 19th from 5-8PM and Wednesday, April 20 from noon until 7PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The family will be present Tuesday from 5-8PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund. Millie Keating died Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Washington County Hospital following a sudden illness.

Mildred A. Keating was born May 4, 1924 in the Washington County Hospital, the daughter of Leaton "L. E." and Rhua (Armstrong) Helmick. She graduated from Brighton High School. She was united in marriage to Claire S. Keating on November 10, 1957 in Washington. Millie worked as a secretary at the United Methodist Church, Washington County Sheriff's Department and the Washington High School, and was a bookkeeper at Keating Steel Fabricators for many years. She was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, PEO, TTT, Fortnightly, Washington Choral Association, Charmonaires, the Blair House Players, the "A Tempo" Trio, the Washington Concert Association and The Sweet Adelines \endash Iowa City Chapter. Millie enjoyed singing, theater, art and crafts and was an accomplished calligrapher. In recent years she played the piano at the Halcyon House.

Survivors include five children and spouses, Cheryl A. (Jay) Nugent of Urbandale, IA, Stevan (Lauren) Keating of Washington, IA, Kent (Darice) Keating of Swisher, IA, Scott Keating of Louisville, CO, Jenny Keating of Booneville, IA, five grandchildren, Ann Boes, Molly Keating, Chris Henderson, Meredith Henderson, Blake Keating, two great grandchildren, Grant Boes and Tyler Henderson and one sister, Audrey Stark of Washington, IA.

Preceding Millie in death were her parents, and her husband Claire in 2000.
