Raymond A. Wittrig


Raymond A. Wittrig, 91, of the Keystone Cedars died there on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 after a short illness. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sat. Jan. 21, 2006 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Mike Patterson will officiate.

Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Mausoleum Columbarium. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Laura of North Liberty and a sister, Clara Reschly of Washington, Iowa. He is also survived by four stepchildren, one-step grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was born on Jan. 20, 1914 in Wayland, the son of Howard and Elizabeth Wittrig. He received his BA from the Iowa State Teacher College in 1939 and his MA from the University of Iowa in 1948. He married Margaret P. Ihrig on July 18, 1939 in West Union. She died in 1994. He then married Laura Johnson on Aug. 16, 1996 in Cedar Rapids.

Ray taught in public schools for several years in Eastern Iowa. He later was a counselor at the Iowa Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in Coralville and for over the last 20 plus years was a self-employed interior decorator. He enjoyed teaching watercolor classes at Keystone Cedars and at the Wittwer Senior Center. Ray proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and beloved family. Memorial donations may be given to Amenity Hospice in Ray's name.
