E. Jean Fritz, 77, of Washington died Saturday, June 16, 2007 in Windmill Manor, Coralville, of complications of cancer.

Services are Friday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church, Washington, with the Reverend Ed O'Melia officiating. Burial is in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington.

Visitation is Thursday, June 21, in Jones Eden Funeral Home, Washington, beginning at noon. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. Prayer services are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Born February 21, 1930 near West Chester, she was the daughter of William Earl and Ethel Leota (Caldwell) Swift. She graduated from Washington High School in 1948 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant. She earned her Masters Degree from the University of Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Alfred J. Fritz November 25, 1948 in Washington.

Mrs. Fritz was a lifelong resident of Washington County where she taught elementary education for 27 years, most recently in Kalona. She retired from the Mid-Prairie Community School District in 1996.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband.

Survivors include two sons, Al and wife Vicki Fritz of Robins and Michael and wife Denise Fritz of Coralville; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, Samantha and Megan Fritz of Robins and Brady and Courtney Fritz of Coralville; seven siblings, Lawrence and wife Gertrude Swift of Washington, Marion and wife JoAnn Swift of Washington, Wanda and husband Clifford Fritz of Pleasant Plain, Edith and husband Meritt Wellington of Washington, Bill and wife Bonnie Swift of Washington, Martha and husband Dale Hawkins of Mesa, Arizona, and Annette and husband Doug Chalupa of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al Fritz in 2002; one grandson, Ryan Fritz; three brothers, Bernard Swift, George Swift and Charles Swift; and two sisters, Esther Houseal and Doris Sojka.

Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
