S. Clifton "Chip" Stevens

LEE - Chip Stevens, 87, died at his home March 11, 1994.

He was born in Orono, August 29, 1906, the son of Guy and Hattie (Delano) Stevens and moved to Lee at an early age. He was a 1924 graduate of Lee Normal Academy. He retired from raising certified seed on his farm in Lee in "Crockertown" in 1976, but continued to enjoy his large vegetable garden right through last year.

He served as a member of the agricultural stabilization and conservation committee in Bangor 24 years, was on the soil conservation committee and served on the Farmers Home Administration Committee, both in Bangor and Lincoln for many years helping farmers. He was a member of the Potato Council and Potato Marketing Committee in Presque Isle and a trustee/director of Lee Academy for 30 years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline, in June of 1992. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kay and Arthur Crocker of Lee and Dorothy and Calvin Thompson; a son and his wife, Lloyd and Gloria Stevens, all of Lincoln; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Sargent of Sorrento. He was predeceased by brothers Clayton, Floyd and Vinal; and a sister, Ruth Smith.

Friends may call at the Clay, Stevens & Clay Funeral Home, Lincoln 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Lee at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the Chip and Pauline Stevens Scholarship at Lee Academy. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
