According to the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Richard was born June 26, 1902 and not July 26, 1902. Richard was a descendant of Seth Howard and Desire Bailey of Maine, who are also part of the Lindsay family tree.

Wed At Brookline


Gowned in hyacinth crepe with fuchsia trimming, and a further fuchsia accent in hat and shoes, Miss Frances Mary Flanders yesterday became the bride of Mr. Richard Foster Howard at a 4 o'clock service at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lindsay Flanders of Brookline. The bride wore a corsage of orchids and gardenias and was attended by her sister, Mrs. Flanders Huntoon, who wore a gown of gray crepe, girdles in shades of purple and American Beauty, with a hat of the latter shade and a corsage of velvets. The groom who is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Lawrence Riggs Howard of West Medway, was attended by Dr. Hallowell Davis of Belmont. Mrs. Flanders wore black lace, with sleeves of coral lace, and a black hat. Mrs. Howard was attired in brown velvet. The Rev. Lawrence Riggs Howard officiated at the ceremony, which was followed by a reception at the bride's home.

Resident of Hopwell to Wed Army Major

NEW YORK, Oct. 16 --
Miss Helen Boswell, 37, a writer of Hopewell, and Major Richard Foster Howard, 41, of Plainfield, N.J., now in the army stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., obtained a marriage license in the Municipal Building in New York.

Miss Boswell, the daughter of Peyton and Bessie Magee Boswell, was born in Chicago. She was divorced from Joseph Luyber in 1934 and from Laczio Nagy in 1943. Major Howard is a native of Plainfield. His first marriage to Anne Okeson was terminated by divorce in 1929. He was divorced from his second wife, Frances Mary Flanders, this year.

The couple said they would be married in New York.

GULF SHORES, Ala. --
Richard Foster Howard, 84, a resident of Gulf Shores, died April 24.

He was a retired U.S. Army colonel and was director of the First Museum of Art, Birminham, for 26 years. He was a member of the Rotary International and was a founder of the local chapter.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Any memorials can be made to the Gulf Shores Library or Mercy Medical Unit, Daphne.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Booker Howard; sons, James Boswell Howard, Columbus, Ga., Tito Howard, Los Angeles, Calif., and Xander Booker, Birmingham; and daughter, Towanda DeNagy, Provincetown, Mass. [all step-children]
