ALVIN ELWOOD PETERSON


Alvin Elwood Peterson, 95, of 850 Baxter Blvd., a longtime resident of Grandin, N.D., died Sunday at a local nursing home.

He was born in Greattinger, Iowa, son of Gustaff and J. LaNete Allely Peterson. He attended schools in Greattinger, the Interstate Business College and the North Dakota Agricultural College.

Mr. Peterson moved to a farm near Grandin in 1917, and founded the Grandin Garage in 1925, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1964.

He was elected to the Grandin Town council for 30 years, and also served as mayor.

He was instrumental in the planting of the town tree belt, and the installation and maintainence of the town's water and sewer system.

He was a longtime member of Grandin Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and clerk of the church for decades. He was also a past master and 55-year member of the Blue Lodge of Masons of Hillsboro, N.D.

His wife, Lois Millar Peterson, died in 1973.

Surviving are two daughters, Ara Colucci of Portland and Desyl Peterson of Orono, Minn.; two sons, Deane of Poquott, Long Island, N.Y., and Dorn Peterson of Harrisonburg, Va.; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Grandin Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens, Fargo, N.D. Arrangements are by Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home.
