John Stewart
John Stewart, died Nov. 21, 2003 at home in Mesa, Ariz. of complications from diabetes and kidney failure.
Born Oct. 4, 1923 in Duluth. He attended Central and joined the Army in 1941. A member of the 601st Tank Destroyer Btn., he was awarded the Purple Heart for action in S. France. He also served in Africa and Italy. John married Donna Coons of Proctor, on April 20, 1946.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, a son Darryl of Caribou Lake, a daughter Barbara Helgren of Mesa Ariz., three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
He retired from the NP/Burlington Northern in 1973 when they became 'snowbirds' and found a new hobby as ham radio operators. His call letters: N0AOB. Both of them taught classes in Morse Code and helped many of their friends to become 'Hams.' They loved camping and traveled the country living in their trailer. They were charter members of the Good Sam Club and members of the local radio club.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Eva Stewart, and a sister, Eva May Yount.
SERVICE:Following John's wishes to be cremated, there will be no services. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by many.
