Charles C. Campbell

ORRINGTON --
Charles C. Campbell, 62, died Friday at a Bangor hospital of injuries sustained Nov. 15 at Eddington when he was struck by a vehicle while changing a tire en route to employment with the State Highway Commission.

He was born on Prince Edward Island, December 13, 1913, the son of James and Grace (Tanner) Campbell. He attended Brewer schools and was a long time resident of Orrington. He was employed as a toll collector on the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge for a number years, and following the removal of tolls was transferred to the Department of Transportation where he was employed at the time of his death as a highway patrolman.

A veteran of service with the U.S. Army in WW II he was a past commander of the Daniel E. Geagen Post of the American Legion of Brewer and served as county and district sergeant at arms. He was currently serving as a member of the National Law and Order Commission of the Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn (Cook) Campbell of Orrington; a daughters, Mrs. Robert (Bonita) Sorrell of Charlottesville, Ind.; his father, James of Brewer; four brothers, John of Dedham, Robert of Brewer, Lawrence of Bangor and Bernard of Harrington; four sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Beaulieu of Green Lake, Mrs. Nettie Provencher of Biddeford, Mrs. Mary Moore and Mrs. Mae Keezer, both of Saco; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Harvard H. Clark Funeral Home, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Military committal services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta and with American Legion State Chaplain Ivan Forsythe of Waterville officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. American Legion memorial services will be conducted by the Daniel E. Geagan Post American Legion on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home with department adjutant Daniel E. Lambert of Orrington officiating.
