OBITUARY
After a protracted illness of a year and a half, William Allen Lindsey passed away in Estacada at the home of Mrs. Lindsey's mother, on Saturday March 1, 1924. At his deceased he was 60 years, 9 months and 25 days of age.
Mr. Lindsey was born in Rappahanock Valley, Virginia [sic], the son of Thomas and Harrie E. Lindsey. When but a year old his parents moved to northern Illinois near Onarga, where he received his education. He came west when a young man and located in Spokane, Wash., where he followed contracting and building for about twelve years, then coming to Portland, and later Estacada, at the beginning of the town, being one of the pioneers to help build up and start the town. Here he met and married Wilda E. Tucker, daughter of Branch and Martha Tucker of Springwater, Oregon, on September 14, 1904. After having spent about ten years in Estacada, they moved to Montana, later going to California, where his health failed and returned to Estacada Nov. 7, 1923, thinking the change would benefit his condition. But all efforts failed, and after a long siege of illness and suffering the end came peacefully.
Mr. Lindsey, better known as Al, was loved and admired by all who knew him. Every one was his friend. He was always ready and anxious to give a helping hand where needed. He was a devoted and loving husband and his passing will be greatly felt. Besides his wife, those left to mourn is a sister, Lizzie L. Beach of Onarga, Ill. and a brother, Thomas Lindsey of Waverly, Virginia, his father having preceded him about 35 years ago, and his mother 6 years ago.
Mr. Lindsey was a member of Scobey Lodge No. 109 A.F. & A.M. and Sheridan Lodge No. 12, I.O.O.F. of Scobey, Montana. He was also a member of the O.E.S. and Rebekah Orders.
The funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1 o'clock p.m. at the M.E. church in Estacada, with the Rev. H. Mort officiating. Interment at the Springwater Cemetery in charge of the local Masons. Mountain Chapter No. 108, O.E.S. of Estacada, of which deceased was a charter member, attended the services in the church in a body.
