VIRGINIA E. 'BOOFIE' MCCANN

HOWLAND -- Virginia E. "Boofie" McCann, 79, wife of the late Harry a. McCann, died March 20, 1998, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born in Maxfield, June 19, 1918, the daughter of Samuel J. and Geneva Alice (Smart) Brown.

She graduated from Howland High School and was a member of the Howland Baptist Church. Boofie worked for 20 years at the Co-op Store in Howland, but she was best known for her homemade chocolate doughnuts that she passed out on Halloween.

She is survived by six daughters and five sons-inlaw, Sally and Wayne Nickerson, Betty and Howard Clements, and Blandine Ware, all of Passadumkeag, Geneva and Gene Gellman of Long Valley, N.J., Etta and Ron Morrill of Caribou, and Margaret and Russ Roy of Hampden; a brother, Samuel J. brown of Southington, Conn.; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Harry, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Thomas Ware Sr.; a grandson, Thomas Ware Jr.; and four brothers, Willard Brown, gerald Brown, Richard Brown, and Irving Brown.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Clay funeral Home in Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clayton Crocker officiating. Interment will be in Maxfield Cemetery later in the spring.
