LT. COL. WARREN SNOW, 87
WORCESTER - Retired Army Lt. Col. Warren S. Snow, 87, of 41 Brighton Road, a longtime quality-control manager and Army officer, died Wednesday night in Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing Center.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Lorna (Kendall) Snow; two sons, Kendall A. Snow of Manchester, N.H., and Marshall W. Snow of South Grafton; a daughter, Beverly M. Snow of Worcester; and two grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Arthur P. and Minnie (McIntire) Snow. He graduated from North High School and attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Lt. Col. Snow was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was then commander of the 413th Ordnance Battalion, Army National Guard, here for 20 years, retiring in 1970.
He was a quality-control manager at Crompton & Knowles Corp., where he worked for 27 years. He retired in 1973. He previously worked for several years at Heald Machine Division of Cincinnati Milacron Inc. He was a longtime mechanical engineer.
Lt. Col. Snow was a member and former deacon of United Congregational Church, and once served on its building committee. He was a member and past president of Bancroft Chapter, American Association of Retired Persons, the Worcester Pistol & Rifle Club, the Reserve Officers Association and General Charles Devens Post 282, American Legion. He was a member of the Military Order of World Wars and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Quinsigamond Lodge of Masons, the Tech Old Timers, Theta Chi Fraternity at WPI and the Republican City Committee. He was a life member of the American Association of Mechanical Engineers.
He donated his body to Boston University School of Medicine for anatomical research.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in United Congregational Church, 6 Institute Road. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A gathering will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Massachusetts Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove St., Worcester, 01605. Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., is directing arrangements.
