Mildred Chapin, banker's widow
LONGMEADOW - Mildred H. (Hillery, Bellows) Chapin, 74, of Yarmouth Street, widow of Roy C. Chapin, former president of the Security National Bank, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Born in Hartford, Conn., she lived in Springfield for many years and here for 10 years.
She was a graduate of Pratt Institute of New York, and was past president of the Springfield Women's Club. She was a member of the Springfield Arts Club, Travel Club and the Faith United Club. She also served on the board of Chestnut Knoll.
She was previously married to the late attorney Richard S. Bellows. She leaves two sons, William O. Bellows of West Springfield and Richard Bellows of Westfield; a step-son Roy C. Chapin, Jr. of Venetia, Pa.; a step-daughter, Mrs. John D. Cowan of Windsor, Conn.; a brother, Donald H. Hillery of Silver Springs, Md.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday afternoon at the Faith United Church with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Byron's State Funeral Home is in charge. Contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
