Two burned in crash
Two Cedar Lake men were "burned beyond recognition" in a fiery one-car crash on State Line Road just south of 169th Ave. in West Creek Township late Friday night.
Ronald R. Rainwater, age 26, of 7328 W. 138th Avenue, and Craig Lee Armstrong, age 28, of 12714 Hilltop Drive, were positively identified Saturday according to the Lake County coroner's office.
According to the Lake County police report, the men were apparently northbound with Rainwater driving on State Line Road at 11:30 p.m. when the vehicle "left the roadway and struck a utility pole." The car then proceeded 38 feet and stopped in a field, where it burst into flames, trapping the two men.
The bodies were first taken to St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point and then transfered to St. Mary Mercy Medical Center in Gary.
Cause of the accident could not be determined by the police, although no other vehicle was believed involved. The Rainwater car was gutted by the fire.
